Parrikar urges PTAs to control mid-day meal bills
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 24 July 2013 20:10 IST

Suppliers of mid-day meal would henceforth be not paid unless the Parents’ Teachers’ Association certifies it.
Chief minister Manohar Parrikar today told parents to exercise their right to certify the bills of the mid-day bill, which exists as a legal requirement.
“This will help you to keep a proper check on the quality of the mid-day meal”, he said while addressing the parents and teachers at the education department at Porvorim today.
The issue of mid-day meal has come to the fore once again as 23 students died in Bihar due to food poisoning while Goa witnessed two incidents within a month, in Canacona and Ponda.
According to Parrikar, the self-help groups preparing mid-day meal need to be controlled by the PTAs.
He also advised the PTAs to hold talks with the self-help groups and decide the menu.
“I have no problem if you decide the menu as per your needs”, he said when parents started complaining about the restricted menu.
When one parent brought to his notice that the bills of the SHGs are certified by the teacher officer bearers of the PTAs, Parrikar said the responsibility would now have to be taken over by the PTA chairperson, who is a parent.
