ESG to demand more powers in IFFI
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 23 July 2013 23:30 IST

The Entertainment Society of Goa will once again try and demand more powers in the organising of the International Film Festival of India in Goa.
Failing this, the ESG general council today decided to organise a parallel internatioanl film festival in Goa while withdrawing itself from IFFI.
The ESG is planning to put forward this resolution before the central government at a meeting scheduled on 30 and 31 July in the national capital.
The ESG general council meeting held at Kala Academy Black Box was chaired by chief minister Manohar Parrikar.
ESG vice chairman Vishnu Wagh said it was a unanimous resolution since ESG bears almost 85 per cent of the cost of organising IFFI in Goa.
As Wagh informed, members were furious over the kind of treatment meted out to ESG in the IFFI held last year.
The Directorate of Film Festival, as per the recommendation of the high-level committee of film makers, had left only logistical powers to the ESG in organsing IFFI.
Wagh also informed that the ESG has decided to simplify the one-window system of film financing scheme, taking into consideration the difficulties faced by Goan film makers.
The revised scheme would hand over the financial assistance to the producers rather than paying their expenditure, said Wagh.
The general council meeting also approved the annual plan of Rs 34 crore.
