Mass hacking of Govt websites a mischief?

GOANEWS & PTI, PANAJI | 09 July 2013 11:53 IST

Goa government authorities have been left puzzled as official websites of 13 departments have been hacked with a message on home page – Pakistan Zindabad.

This includes even most publicised tourism department website.

The state home ministry is now probing into the hacking as the hackers have not touched original data but only the home page.

“We really need to find out whether it is work of a terrorist outfit or just a mischief”, says Subhash Faldesai, the chairman of Goa Information Technology Corporation.

IT Corporation, which is handling the data of all government websites through a private vendor, has decided to strengthen its anti-hacking protection.

Though Faldesai said his department would restore the website by today, no website could be opened till afternoon.

Besides tourism, the websites include departments of river navigation, social welfare, printing and stationary, food and drugs, labour and employment, sports and youth affairs, ports, dental college as well as NRI commission.

In a similar manner, a Turkish terrorist group had hacked the site of Information and Publicity department in November 2007, almost six years ago.

Since then, the department has not relaunched its website.

Anti-hacking protection needs to be strengthened. Otherwise, this problem will continue.
