Chowgule students create commotion in Sat

The issue of Chowgule higher secondary school took a dramatic turn today with the Margao district and sessions court restraining South Goa collector from holding a joint meeting of the management and teachers.

The court however upheld Collector’s decision to reopen the staff room of the higher secondary teachers, which was suddenly closed on Saturday by the management.

Meanwhile, the government has left the issue of location of staff room and timings of Chowgule higher secondary school to the management.

The issue had cropped up after the management locked the staff room of higher secondary students on Saturday and shifting the teachers’ lockers elsewhere.

With teachers approaching the students with this development, panic had spread among the students, who had marched to principal’s office, creating commotion.

Collector Agarwal had then intervened with an assurance to hold a joint meeting today, while ordering to reopen the staff room.

 

He had to however call off the joint meeting between the management and teachers due to Margao sessions court staying it.

Hundreds of students as well as teachers had gathered at the South Goa Collectorate today afternoon for a joint meeting.

The whole matter would be now heard by the court.

The year-long issue of Chowgule management deciding to close its higher secondary section had been resolved as the management gave admission to Std XI this year after the government decided to take over the higher secondary section.

Meanwhile, education additional director Anil Powar, who had come to Margao for the joint meeting, told the media persons that the government cannot interfere with the management decision regarding staff room location or the school timings.

He also claimed that the department had not interfered in the issue of the higher secondary section functioning without a principal since everything was running smoothly.
