School Infra scheme hiked up to Rs 3.5 Cr

Goa government has revised the school infrastructure funding scheme, increasing its limit to Rs 3.5 crore, but not for unaided schools.
After approving the revised scheme at the cabinet meeting today, chief minister Manohar Parrikar said he plans to release Rs 50 crore this year, covering around 30 schools.
Goa has total 276 aided schools, from primary to higher secondary sections.
However, Parrikar said he would cover all the schools in next four years.
Half of the amount of this funding would be a grant while the rest would be interest-free loan, to be repaid in 15 years, at the rate of Rs 278 per month on each lakh.
The loan is meant for the improvement of infrastructure like construction or renovation of school building, toilets/bathroom, hostel facilities, play ground and to purchase equipment for security of the school including CCTV.
It also includes the cost of land, but not exceeding 50 per cent of the total loan amount.
The schools, which have already availed the scheme, would also be paid the balance amount of the revised scheme.
The funding would be Rs 50 lakh to a primary school, Rs one crore to a secondary school and Rs two crore to the higher secondary school.
An institution having all three sections would get a composite funding up to Rs 3.5 crore.
The scheme however could be availed subject to the strength of students: Primary – 160 in developed talukas and 100 in less developed talukas; High school – 300 in developed talukas and 200 in less developed talukas and Higher secondary school – 120 in developed talukas and 80 in less developed talukas.
The minimum enrolment of student also should be 160 in the Developed Talukas and 100 in the less Developed Talukas.
Similarly, the passing percentage in SSC needs to be 70 per cent in developed talukas and 60 per cent in less developed talukas.
