Cong opposes 'Sydney' bridge over Terekhol

The Goa Congress unit today opposed the state government's plan to construct a Sydney Harbour style bridge over Terekhol river on the border along Maharashtra.
The party accused the Parrikar-led government of planning to construct the bridge to support a hotel project, spread across 345 acres on Goa border.
Goa Congress spokesman Aleixo Lourenco claimed that the bridge has been proposed only to benefit the hotel property, which has been facing opposition from the locals.
"The hotel has proposed golf course and other amenities for which they have forcibly acquired land of people in connivance with the government," Lourenco alleged.
The Congress party will oppose the construction of this bridge over Terekhol river, he said.
"We will agitate and if required, will take to the streets," he added.
The state government has failed to provide basic infrastructure for the people of the state while it is spending money on such unnecessary projects to benefit few rich and wealthy people, he alleged.
As per the reports, the state government has planned a Sydney Harbour style bridge which will connect both the states.
The tender for the bridge is expected to be floated by this month-end.

finally something "constructive" by congress. the whole terakol bridge is in bad taste. a bridge on the mouth of river is bound to destroy the environment of the place no matter whether you built it without pillers or it levitates in mid air. besides the whole expense is unjustified. right after terakol goa border ends and the mining scam infamous redi port of maharashtra starts. in terakaol itself there are only 2 things 5 star fort nilaya hotel and this upcoming golf course which intend to displace the population of terakol. if govt was sincere instead of building the bridge it would have banned the golf course, taken over the fort and develop the place itself. it seems govt is bribed to build the bridge. the whole thing smells of a scam. the fort besides being a heritage structure also has a religious significance for us. besides it is a very important historic monument. this should not be forgotten.
