Queue for Chowgule admissions

Long queues were witnessed since early morning today in front of the old zonal office of education department in Margao to seek admissions at ‘Government-owned’ Chowgule higher secondary school.

The government has decided to give admissions to 200 students in Science stream and 100 in Arts stream for Std XI.

Among these, 33 per cent are reserved seats - 19 per cent for OBC, 12 for ST and 2 per cent for SC.

Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza kicked off the procedure of giving admission forms at 10 am today.

To-be-appointed government administrator Ramkrishna Sawant and former MLA Damu Naik were also present.

People however had started lining up since 5 am early morning today.

By 11 am, the line had reached the Presentation Convent.

Deputy CM D’Souza at the function announced that students would be given admission as per merit.

After accepting forms till 5 pm today and tomorrow, the merit list would be announced on 7 June.

As the management of Chowgule College decided to close down its higher secondary section and refused admissions for Std XI this year, the government has decided to take over the higher secondary.

Pending completion of procedures to take over, the government today started issuing admission forms for the school.
