Vasco rape to CBI is eyewash: Aires

GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 30 May 2013 23:18 IST

Social activist Aires Rodrigues has alleged that handing over Vasco rape case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is mere eyewash.

He has accused Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar of now trying to wash his hands over the police investigation that was politically botched up.

He has also expressed doubts whether the CBI would even accept to take over the investigation at such a late stage.

Rodrigues even alleged that Parrikar had over the last four months personally supervised the hushing up of the case.

He also reminded Parrikar time and again publicly expressing doubts about the integrity and capability of the CBI and wondered as to why the Chief Minister was now handing over the case to a body he had no faith in.

Recalling that the police had dubbed the Vasco rape case as a blind case, Rodrigues said the police had in fact under the political pressure sabotaged the investigation.

He also observed that Parrikar had till date not even bothered to visit the victim and her grieving family.
