The new Collectorate building of Margao was finally named as Matanhy Saldanha administrative complex today, on the occasion of Goa Statehood Day.
Chief minister Manohar Parrikar, at the inaugural ceremony, assured to shift all the government offices to this complex, making it one-stop facility for the people.
“It is not named after Matanhy because he was our party man but a great social activist dedicated to Goa and its welfare”, said Parrikar.
Besides the offices at the old Collectorate, the government also plans to shift all the existing government offices in Margao, situated in different rented premises.
Besides the Collectorate and the Mamlatdar offices, the authorities have already shifted offices of the BDO, civil registrar and the election office.
Work is also on to shift other offices like treasury, excise and other revenue offices.
“All the offices would be shifted within a month”, said Parrikar.
Though he had termed this building as a white elephant earlier, Parrikar today said the complex would emerge as one of the topmost complex of Goa government.
He also appealed to the people of South Goa to make the complex plastic-free.
The inaugural ceremony, held at the conference hall, was also attended by Matanhy’s wife and forest and environment minister Alina Saldanha, industries minister Mahadev Naik, fisheries minister Mahadev Naik as well as other MLAs form South Goa.
