Show cause issued, but Chowgule takeover complex
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 29 May 2013 19:46 IST

The takeover of Chowgule higher secondary school may not be so easy for the government since the College also functions from the same campus, without additional rooms allotted for the school.
The education department however issued a show cause notice today to the Chowgule management, asking why the government should not take over the higher secondary section.
The notice, quoting section 20 of Goa Education Act, has expressed its intention to take over its HSS in public interest, also because the management has not obeyed the department order not to close down its higher secondary section.
“We will take over within a week”, additional director of education Anil Powar told goanews.com.
However, inquiries made in the Chowgules revealed that the issue is not simple since the college section and the HSS section use the same premises.
According to information, the administration section, staff room and even some of the classrooms are common for both Arts and Science streams.
Only the HSS has separate laboratories and few classrooms are dedicated to only higher secondary section.
In addition, other facilities like the playground, library and canteen etc are common for both.
The capacity of students at the Chowgule HSS is around 300, with a teaching staff of around 30 and around 15 non-teaching staff.
