Higher Secondaries to open on 10 June
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 29 May 2013 19:24 IST

The higher secondary schools would open on 10 June, five days later, due to the admission issue of Std XI students.
Anil Powar, additional director of education, told goanews.com that opening of higher secondary sections has been postponed in order to resolve the admission tangle.
The issue has cropped up as almost 5000 more students passed out SSC examination this year with a result of around 84 per cent, compared to 73 per cent last year.
As assured by chief minister Manohar Parrikar earlier, a review of the admission scenario has already started.
Parrikar had assured to accommodate all the students in Std XI either by increasing the limit of 50 students in each division or opening additional divisions.
“We have already received applications seeking permission to open additional divisions”, said Powar.
The higher secondary schools which have applied believed to be Dhempe, Saraswat, Xaviers, Kushe, Cuncolim, MES and Navelim.
In addition, he said the department would permit admitting five more students in Science stream while the Commerce could go up to even 60 students in a division.
The department expects more applications by the week end.
