Aged contract teachers given age relaxation

GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 22 May 2013 18:08 IST

Teachers, mostly teaching in vocational stream at higher secondary level, will get five-year relaxation in either applying for fresh appointment or to regularize them.

The cabinet relaxed the age bar, extending it to 47 years, only for the teachers who are either on contract, lecture basis or ad-hoc basis for several years.

“We could not do anything in their case since many of them have crossed the age of 42”, said chief minister Manohar Parrikar.

While stating that some of them are on double contract and even for 16 years, he said the government has cleared a major obstacle of age bar, making it easy now to deal with their complex issues.

“All may not be regularized but some of them can apply afresh for a permanent job”, said Parrikar.

Meanwhile, the cabinet has also decided to allot the land of old Banastari road to the panchayat, to utilize for its famous weekly market.

The road area, approximately 800 square meters, from Banastari market to the old bridge, would be now handed over to the local panchayat.

“They can either run the same weekly market on the road or construct a building for the weekly market”, said Parrikar.
