GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 18 April 2013 19:43 IST

Goa government has decided to concentrate more on counseling, along with faculty advisors, to control the increasing trend of drinking alcohol and consuming drugs among the students.
Chief minister Manohar Parrikar has also assured to crack down on all the joints selling drugs illegally outside the college campus or anywhere else.
The whole Assembly today expressed concern over the student community attending night parties by consuming alcohol and drugs, when Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginald Lourenco raised the issue.
How can government control it when the parents can’t control it and the college authorities cannot track down these things, asked the chief minister.
“You give me details in private and I will crack down on all these illegalities”, assured Parrikar.
He said such joints are mostly located around the campus areas and need to be raided in a secretive manner.
When members like Congress MLA Lourenco and BJP MLA Subhash Faldesai started revealing the locations, Parrikar stopped them and told not to disclose these things in public.
“There could be security problem for you since the drug dealers are criminals”, Parrikar reminded them.
The chief minister however said he does not know how to control the increasing menace of drug consumption among the youth.
“Partially parents are responsible for this as the trend nowadays also to pamper your children beyond limits”, he observed.
He also agreed to the suggestion made by independent member Vijay Sardesai about having more detoxification centres in the state.
“Money is not a problem as far as counseling is concerned”, Parrikar made it clear to the House.
He also pointed out at the modern trend of buying two-wheelers for the children at young age, who overspeed and die.
Faldesai also observed that the street children are succumbing to use white ink to get kicks.
