Goa finally rejects Playboy proposal
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 15 April 2013 15:19 IST

Putting an end to the long-turn controversy, Goa government has finally decided to reject the proposal of starting Playboy Club in Goa.
Opposition to Playboy was on moralistic grounds, but the government has rejected it on technical grounds.
‘We cannot give a shack licence to any person outside Goa and never to a company, so the question of permitting Playboy Club in a shack does not arise”, said chief minister Manohar Parrikar.
Michael Lobo, ruling party’s Calangute MLA, has moved a calling attention motion in this regard, opposing the Club.
He had even threatened to go on a hunger strike if Playboy was permitted.
Playboy, the international brand, was supposed to begin its chain of 120 clubs in India with the first one in Goa, that too in Calangute, the hot bed of international tourism.
To suite Indian tradition, the club had even redesigned the costumes of Playboy bunnies.
However, Lobo opposed the Club alleging that he does not want vulgarity to spread in his Calangute constituency.
Tourism minister Dilip Parulekar, who had initially supported the Playboy proposal, said the issue was also discussed in view of vulgarity.
“All of us are aware how much prostitution has increased in our tourist state”, he admitted while replying to the calling attention motion.
He informed the House that Playboy had applied for a beach shack, but the shack policy does not permit companies to set up shacks, only individuals.
Agnelo Fernandes, former Congress MLA from Calangute, had backed the proposal during the erstwhile Congress regime.
The tourism department has permitted almost 950 shacks this year, out of which 600 are in private properties.

Ever since Ex-Congress MLA Agnelo Fernandes has been elected to represent Calangute; Prostitution ,Massage Parlours, drug issues have plagued Calangute and surrounding areas and has increased manifold.
Agnelo Fernandes has been mis-leading & cheating local citizens that he is against all these Social Ills & vices.
Behind the scenes he is well known to actually be a promoter of such enterprises. He benefits from it financially.
The name CAFE, instead of CLUB is just another guise for him to promote the sex industry in Goa.
Who ever lays lay claims, that Playboy clubs will attract high-end Tourists to Goa, should get their brain matter checked.
Playboy Clubs around the world are frequented by the Mafiosi, drug cartels, the sexually depraved, gamblers ,assasins etc.
The Playboy club in Goa is of no benefit to ordinary Goans. It will only serve many corrupt Indian Politicians & Business men, to dispose their ill-acquired wealth.
I doubt any Goan ,will be happy to receive Taxes from immoral activities .There are other better methods to increase Tax revenues & incomes.
People visiting London do not come for the Playboy club.
They come because of the infrastructure, museums, theatres, Restaurants, Palaces ,Concerts etc.
I doubt the current Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar has the right attributes, vision, foresight or competence to be in charge of Goan Tourism.
It is time he got sacked & demoted to a junior position.
It is fruitless for him to keep proving his Jobs-worth.
