Use your brains; Parrikar to helmet-less MLAs

Chief minister Manohar Parrikar has appealed to all his legislator colleagues to use brains and abide by the law, including wearing of a helmet while riding a two wheeler.

He was speaking in the Assembly on the issue that raised a public controversy as nine MLAs including his minister rode on a national highway without wearing helmets.

“Kindly remember that you have been elected because you have brains. Kindly use those brains and behave yourself”, said Parrikar.

He described the whole incident as “bad” and appealed his legislator colleagues to work to protect the law and not to break it.

Let us convert the incident into positive and let people realize that even MLAs and minister can get challaned if they violate the law, he added.

The chief minister thought the law enforcing authorities could now get more courage to act against the violators of traffic rules since even the MLAs have been challaned.

Surprisingly, when Parrikar – perhaps sarcastically – said that our MLAs have contributed the state treasury through this act, the ruling party members thumped the benches, as though they endorsed the act.

When opposition leader Pratapsing Rane requested the speaker to take action since the violation has taken place within the precincts of the Assembly, speaker Rajendra Arlekar said certain actions have been initiated as per his directives.

Would anyone(Citizen) disagree ,if the Law breaking MLA`s were made to attend the Legislature, on their Bicycles as a punishment?...& wearing a helmet....for a week?

Mr Parrikar could use his brains , if he suspended the Driving licences of the MLA`s who broke the Law.

The issuing of small fines (Rs 100-Rs 1000) is no deterrent.

Relative to law breaking issues, this incident must be seen as a minor infringement and MLA`s seen as having behaved like jackasses.

It is the "major" criminal /Law breaking issues ,that MLA`s commit, that need far more attention & rectification.

Asking a VII Std. failure & a top of the League criminal ( MLA Mickky Pacheco) to investigate the Politician -Police -Drug nexus is case is as crazy as it gets.

Aren`t there any more competent MLA`s in Goa to conduct this inquiry?
