GEC Farmagudi to be now Bandodkar Complex
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 05 April 2013 19:15 IST

The Goa Engineering College campus would be now called Bhausaheb Bandodkar Technical Educational Complex.
Chief minister Manohar Parrikar as well as the whole House of 40 members has unanimously agreed to the private resolution moved by Ponda MLA Lavu Mamledar.
“There cannot be disagreement on this”, said Parrikar, while instantly accepting the proposal.
It is Bandodkar’s vision due to which Goa is today educationally much advanced in the country, he said.
Parrikar had special praises for the man who set up schools even in the remotest corner of Goa when there was neither proper road network nor a transport facility like today.
People had to walk several kilometers for any good facility, but Bhau made schools to the students available in their locality, recalled Parrikar.
Mamledar, the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party MLA, also said no Goan should forget the contribution of this great visionary, due to which this naming is necessary.
“Otherwise people having no much knowledge of education have set up institutions in their names while they are still living and Bhau is forgotten”, he remarked, probably hinting at another private college at Farmagudi.

GEC is vision of Bahusaheb Bandodkar and so is Goa university and hardly any Goan knows bahusaheb's achievements to Goa in the field of education and renaming college after visionary is no wrong.
Students should come on roads to improve infrastructure and quality of education which is in tatters at the moment.
Teachers are still fresh pass-outs and hardly anyone know what is Engineering so it needs to be improved.
I am 2007 GEC pass-out and know the standard of education in college.

The engico doesn't need a reason to come on road. I wish they could come on road to improve the quality of the education imparted at GEC.
The college will still be called Goa College of Engineering at the Bandodkar complex, a la, GMC at Rajiv Gandhi complex.
So cool down.

we engicos wont let this happen. Our identity is associated with our college. The college has established its name over entire world which will be lost if renamed just for the sake of that MG MLA

No Engico will allow this to happen. Bloody the entire college will be on road before anything like this happens. Engico is our identity. Don't dare play with it...
