Big schools to get 3 Bal Rath buses

Secondary schools having student strength above 500 will now get three Bal Rath buses.
The government would also pay annual grant of Rs three lakh in two installments for fuel and driver instead of paying for their salary.
As spelt out by chief minister Manohar Parrikar, the new scheme would operate as follows:
Three Bal Rath for a school of 12 divisions from Std V to X. There are 72 such schools with a capacity of above 500 students.
Two Bal Rath for a school of six divisions from Std V to X, with full capacity of divisions. There are 77 such schools having above 250 students.
One Bal Rath for six divisions, either with no full capacity of divisions or those whose capacity requirement has been relaxed.
There are 62 schools where all the divisions are not fully occupied and 84 schools whose division capacity requirement has been relaxed.
The government till date has identified total 295 private secondary schools.
Two former chief ministers - Pratapsing Rane and Digambar Kamat - had moved a resolution in this regard, which they later withdrew after explaining the new scheme.
According to Parrikar, the requirement of buses is 516 against the availability of 376 buses.
The government plans to immediately deliver 100 more buses as soon as the KTC purchases new buses.
But even after that, there would be a shortfall of 40 buses.
He also said the KTC has been directed to provide 83 buses to the government schools.
However, the KTC would be allowed to hire private buses for the purpose, provided they are not more than two-year old and in good running condition.
They would also be allowed to be used for passenger service during free time, said Parrikar.
However, he also warned that he would take back the buses if they are misused or used to lift students from the areas of other neighbouring schools.
Similarly, Parrikar said schools would now get grants for fuel and drivers – Rs two lakh in June and Rs one lakh in December.
Instead of producing the bills of payment, the education department has now made it mandatory to produce the Chartered Accountant’s certificate by September in the preceding year.
