Com of 'concerned' to run Autism schools
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 04 April 2013 17:06 IST

Schools of special children, especially those having autism, will now be monitored by the people having concern and not by the bureaucrats.
Chief minister Manohar Parrikar plans to spell out a separate policy to run such schools by fourth week of April.
The concern was raised by Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte in the House today.
“Education department is not equipped to handle such schools. You need to have concern”, said Parrikar.
He also accepted Khaunte’s suggestion to have officials of the departments of education, health and social welfare on the committee.
However, the chief minister made it clear that the officials would only look after financial part and facilities to be provided and not actual running of these schools.
“Let us involved the concerned managements of such schools as well as parents”, said Parrikar.
He appreciated the efforts three MLAs – Khaunte, Aleixo Reginald Lourenco and Michael Lobo – are taking to get maximum facilities for these schools.
“No politics here, let us all join together to run these schools as efficiently as possible”, Parrikar said.
He agreed that these schools should be provided with special buses, proper pick up and drop facilities, trained teachers including speech therapists etc as well as well-equipped resource rooms.
Incidentally, April is the month being observed as Autism Awareness Month worldwide.
