GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 04 April 2013 14:22 IST

Goa government intends to provide best quality trouble-free Notebook computers to the students of Standard V and VI, along with Wi Fi facility in each school, at the beginning of the next academic year.

The Notebooks would be combined with E-Content as per their syllabus, said chief minister Manohar Parrikar.

The issue was raised by Fatorda MLA Vijay Sardesai, in view of the government announcement to either give Notebooks or Tablets to the students of Std V and VI.

“Tablets are not yet stabilized, but Notebooks are”, informed Parrikar, also the education minister.

With a provision of Rs 40 crore, he plans to distribute Notebooks to almost 45,000 students when schools reopen in June.

He also informed the House that the education department has already received 46,207 applications till date.

“However, we will give it only after seeking consent of the parents since some parents might oppose the idea of giving such gadgets to their children”, said Parrikar.

Though the brand of Notebook is yet to be finalised, he intends to give best Notebook among top five, but within the range of Rs 10,000.

“We don’t mind spending little more if it costs more, but the Notebook would be trouble-free and could be used at least for six years”, said Parrikar.

According to him, Akash II is yet to be tested and the government in any case has no intention of giving tablets since it has lots of limitations.
