Nigerians commit crimes, to overstay
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 26 March 2013 20:38 IST

Nigerians deliberately commit petty crimes, may not be because they are habitual criminals, but as a tactic to overstay in India, thanks to our judicial delays.
This got revealed during the debate in the Assembly today when Calangute MLA Michael Lobo raised the issue.
Chief minister Manohar Parrikar in fact expressed his firm stand not to tolerate overstaying attitude of the Nigerian youth.
“We have already deported 17 Nigerians for overstaying and the drive would be now intensified”, he told the House.
The chief minister however also clarified that he does not mean all Nigerians are like this.
Lobo, during Zero Hour brought to the notice of the members that the Nigerians work in a gang to commit petty offences so that they get arrested and can stay in Goa till the case gets over.
Parrikar informed that the Nigerians have been found to be getting registered in bogus institutes as students and then overstaying.
“I will also come down heavily on these bogus institutes and anybody found to have been overstaying would be deported immediately”, said the chief minister.
He also plans to follow the advisory issued earlier that registration of everybody who comes from outside Goa is a must.
“This would even apply to the migrant Indian labour coming to Goa”, said Parrikar.
He also plans to take action against the contractors who are getting these labourers either as security guards or construction workers.
However, as this class is a requirement for Goa, the chief minister is also planning to train the local workforce and orient them with good amount of wages so that migrants could be replaced with the locals.
