KA to honour 5 artists on World Theatre Day

Kala Academy Goa will felicitate five veteran theatres artists tomorrow, on the occasion of World Theatre Day, at the hands of Satish Alekar, a Marathi theatre legend.
The function will be held at the DMK theatre of Kala Academy on 27 March at 6.30 pm, followed by Rangmel repertory production, written and directed by Kala Academy chairman Vishnu Wagh – Sangeet Alakh Niranjan.
Wagh said all the five artists have served the Goan theatre at village level, with dedication and commitment.
These are the veteran artists to be felicitated:
Shiva Pandurang Naik

Shiva Pandurang Naik is from Talarn in Pernem taluka. He has played harmonium for over 500 musical plays and has also acted in Marathi dramas, also as a woman. He is expert in both harmonium and tabla. He has also participated in Bhajan with famous personalities.
Dayanand Bhagat

Dayanand Bhagat from Marcel in Ponda taluka is well known for set designs. Started in 1962, his sets have won several prizes. He has also directed and acted in some plays. His association with theatre is from childhood as his father was running a business of supplying drama props.
Marshal Fernandes

Marshal Fernandes is from Betul in Quepem taluka. He knows Portuguese as well as Marathi. He has acted in over 100 Marathi dramas till date. Besides acting, he has also written Kantaram for Konkani tiatr, but known more for his mastery over Marathi dramas.
Chandrakant Shivram Naik

Chandrakant Naik is from Dongri in Tiswadi taluka. 62-year old Naik started acting at the age of eight years, with a role of Krishna. Besides acting as male as well as female roles, he has also produced and directed several dramas. He has moved with several theatre personalities all over Goa.
Minaxi Amonkar

Minaxi Amonkar is from Ribandar in Tiswadi taluka. The 72-year old singer-cum-actor made her debut on the stage at the age of 11. She acted as a main character at the age of 13 in a drama ‘Laakh Manoos’. She never turned back and became a favourite actor all over Goa, including veterans like Pt Manoharbuva Shirgaonkar, Tatoba Velingkar, Surya Wagh etc.
