GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 22 March 2013 17:36 IST

Mayem Lake would be developed as a theme park for Goa, in order to provide amusement to tourists.

Around one lakh square meters of land has already been earmarked for the project.

The Goa Tourism Development Corporation would develop it, informed tourism minister Dilip Parulekar in the House today.

A private resolution in this regard was moved by St Andre MLA Vishnu Wagh, which he later withdrew as the government agreed to his demand.

Wagh had proposed to think of a Theme Park, on the liens of Kingdom of Dreams in Gurgao as Goa needs to develop alternate economy to mining.

He also pointed out that tourists have nothing to retain them in Goa for more than two to three days than the package tour of temples, churches and beaches.

Parulekar also agreed that Goa is facing a tough competition from Indian states like Maharashtra, Karnataka and Kerala as well as international destinations like Sri Lanka and Thailand.
