Govt funding for CCTV & compound walls for schools
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 22 March 2013 14:55 IST

Education department will provide funds to the educational institutes to install CCTVs at the entry point and also to construct compound wall around the school complex.
Chief minister Manohar Parrikar however insisted: “The best CCTV camera can he child’s parents, especially the mother.”
He agreed to the private resolution moved by Margao MLA Digambar Kamat to provide funds for installing Close Circuit TV cameras in educational institutions to provide security to children.
“I am not suggesting too many cameras, but to have only one or two entry points and install cameras there”, said Kamat.
Parrikar said he would release funds to construct compound walls by mid-April and even Chartered Accountant’s certificate would be enough for it.
He said the government would not lag behind in providing all kind of security measures to school children; in view of the Delhi rape case as well as Vasco rape case besides several such incidents that have taken place in Goa and the country.
“But I don’t want to waste money in the name of providing security”, said Parrikar.
He appeared doubtful how much security CCTV cameras could provide as the intelligent criminal can hide his face and escape whereas such cameras cannot be installed in the toilets.
The Vasco rape on a seven-year old child had taken place in a toilet, he reminded the House.
Parrikar is of a firm opinion that more than CCTV cameras, the counseling of children and proper monitoring and orientation by the teachers and parents could provide better security to the children.
“The children should be told why they should not accept things like chocolates etc from the strangers and other security measures”, he said.
