Gomes shifted from SAG due to political pressure

GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 16 March 2013 17:55 IST

Elvis Gomes, executive director of Sports Authority of Goa, has suddenly been transferred on the eve of Lusofonia Games, apparently due to political pressure from sports minister Ramesh Tawadkar.

Sandeep Jacques, Commissioner of Excise, will now replace him.

Gomes, a sports lover and considered to be an efficient officer, was personally picked up by chief minister Manohar Parrikar in October last year to monitor Lusofonia Games also to streamline the SAG.

However, his increasing differences with the sports minister learnt to have compelled the chief minister to take the hard decision.

Gomes has been now transferred as the director of municipal administration.

The organisation of Lusofonia Games would now severely affect, admit sources in the SAG, as Gomes had developed excellent working relation with the organisers of the international games.

We got to know both sides before we take up conclusion. There are rumors that Elvis is made foreign trips unnecessary and used got funds. Also nothing new ideas has been obtained by him. In fact Dr.Rufino shold have been sent instead of him as he does not have good reputation as Chief Officer in CCP.This must have promted Sports Minister to shunt it off from this Lusofenia Games. It may be true that the Sports Minister is aware of some hanky panky of Elvis. Also Mr Ramesh Tawdkar is not less and he too does not have a good reputaion. Let us wait and see its outcome, but parrikar should not have taken drastic and fast action.
