IFFI to be self-sustaining from next year

Union Information and Broadcasting ministry will work towards making International Film Festival of India (IFFI) happening in Goa a self sustainable event, the minister said today.

Union information and broadcasting minister Manish Tewari told reporters in Goa that after IFFI 2012 the ministry will think upon making this festival self sustainable, which is currently being financed by the union and Goa government.

“I agree with the spirit (that festival should be self sustainable). There is road to travel,” Tewari said.

“Once we are through with this festival, we will see how possibly can make this happen,” the minister added.

Since the time IFFI 2004  has travelled to Goa from New Delhi, the talks are on to ensure that it is made self sustainable.  Union I & B ministry and Goa government has earkmarked Rs nine crore budget for the festival this year to be held between November 20-30.

Hindi filmstar Akshay Kumar would be inaugurating this edition of IFFI which would be held in Panaji.
