MLAs to have iPads; saving trees
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 08 August 2012 21:20 IST

Goa government has decided to give iPads to all the 40 MLAs to save trees and have paperless Assembly proceedings.
Chief minister Manohar Parrikar today told the Assembly that the government would provide iPads to all the MLAs.
“We intend to make the Assembly proceedings paperless”, he said.
The answer sheets, which are widely known as LAQs (Legislative Assembly Questions), require huge amount of papers to supply the copies to the MLAs as well as to the media.
“We need to reduce the paper usage, which can also save some trees”, said Parrikar.

Now that is a good move with a genuine motive. Paperless assembly proceedings are much appreciated. But please.... no "Porngate" here!

It is a good initiative to use electronics to save paper, etc.
Likewise, the electricity, water and other govt. bills should be made available on the internet for on-line payments.
Besides the local and state banks should also facilitate on-line banking.

The "paperless concept", has never worked anywhere,in the world.
I doubt it will work in the Goa Legislature. It will have limited scope.
It was going to be introduced in Goan Courts...but never materialised.
On another level...many Goan MLA`s ( many illiterate & uneducated) will require some basic IT skills in using Ipads & require some training.
