MoI decision to resolve 'war' between Goans: CM

GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 01 August 2012 22:27 IST

The decision to give salary grants to Church-run English medium schools was taken to resolve the divide within the Goan society and not to promote English as a medium of instruction, claimed chief minister Manohar Parrikar today.

While speaking on demands of education department, Parrikar tonight reiterated that only primary education in mother tongue can keep us connected to our culture, not otherwise.

While stating that he means both Konkani as well as Marathi, Parrikar however did not explain how One Goan has Two mother tongues.

“It was almost like a war and an amicable solution on the Medium of Instruction issue was inevitable as we could not afford to continue the fight”, he said.

While stating that culture would be finished if mother tongue was not promoted, he also observed: “If you don’t learn your mother tongue, you get disconnected from the society”.

While Konkani or Marathi would be a compulsory subject at primary level, the chief minister said the government is also considering making it compulsory from school to college level.

“If English is everything, when why is USA is short of doctors, engineers and IT professionals and why is England importing English teachers from India”, he asked the Assembly.

He also observed that Goans are spoiling English of their children by conversing with them in corrupted English.

OUR C. M. IS VERY CORRECT.

IT IS LIKE HERE SAYING 'GANYA PANI AAN' IN MARATHI.

OUR PLACE IT IS SAYING LIKE 'COME RE BABA' OR 'EAT RE BABA' AND THE SIMILAR ONE.

WHEN I SAW A VERY YOUNG BABY WAS GIVEN PEPSI COLA THROUGH A FEEDER, I ASKED THE MOTHER AS WHAT SHE WAS FEEDING THE BABY? THE MOTHER PROMPTLY SAID 'THE BABY IS THIRSTY NO/' THIS IS A REAL FACT I MENTIONED YOU WILL HAVE TO JUST BELIEVE IT PLEASE!
