Govt to review rent-a-bike system

Goa government has decided to review the rent-a-bike trade in the state fearing that rented vehicles can be used by anti-social elements.
Chief minister Manohar Parrikar told the State Legislative Assembly last night that temporarily there is a ban on registering any more bikes under rent-a-bike scheme.
"The government is in the process of regulating this trade. There was no control over it in absence of proper regulation," Parrikar said, adding that proper rules would be formed for the people in this trade before commencement of tourist season in September.
Under rent-a-bike, a tourist arriving in the state can take a bike for cheap as Rs. 250 per day during off season.
Parrikar said the state is wary that these bikes might be misused for anti social activities including terrorism as those renting them out don't insist for documents like passport or licence from tourists.
