Cross voting in Cong for Presidential election: Vijay
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 22 July 2012 22:50 IST

The massive victory of newly elected President of India Pranab Mukherjee has also exposed the disunity in the Congress party in Goa.
Though Mukherjee polled nine votes in Goa, it should have been actually 10 when independent Fatorda MLA Vijay Sardesai has also voted for Mukherjee.
P A Sangma, who otherwise could not poll more than 30 per cent votes at national level, got almost 31 votes in Goa.
The opposition Congress has only nine MLAs in the state.
Sardesai has alleged that the cross-voting within the Congress is clear with this election.
He feels that not fielding any candidate in Cortalim bye-election and the incident of cross-voting in Presidential election appears to be having some link.
“I don’t want to get into internal matters of the Congress party. But the performance of MLAs in the Assembly is a visible proof of who might have cross-voted”, quips Sardesai.
The Congress however has claimed that all its nine MLAs have united voted in favour of Mukherjee.
