CM blames Cong for crime rise during BJP regime

The BJP-led government yesterday claimed that the rate of crime detection has gone up since the time they have taken up the reins of the state in March this year.
"The police department's moral had gone down during the tenure of Congress-led government because the former home minister himself was in the range of suspicion (for criminal activity)," Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar told the State Legislative Assembly yesterday.
In an indirect reference to Home Minister Ravi Naik's son, Roy's alleged involvement in the drug cartel, Parrikar said the police were demoralised to see that the suspicion was also on the family members of then Home Minister.
"Since the time we have taken over, we have given free hand for the policemen. The crime detection has gone up to 64 per cent," he said without elaborating on what was the detection percentage during last year.
Parrikar conceded that the number of crimes in the state is still on rise due to the scarcity of policemen.
He said that 30 percent of the force was busy protecting VIPs during the tenure of earlier government, who now stands withdrawn and they are placed in various police stations.
The chief minister claimed that he has dropped the number of policemen on his security duty from 100-odd to just 17.
Parrikar admitted that despite these measures, the scarcity remains to be plaguing the force.
He said the third battalion of India Reserve Battallion (IRB) will be raised to make up for the shortage.

My neighbour at Vasco Mrs Luiza gonsalves, Housing board society, Baina has been robbed of Rs 4 lakhs. My house was also robbed on 23/9/2011, but luckly nothing was robbed as i dont have any Gold. when nothing is robbed the police is not ready to register the complaint, because they want to show that no crime/robberies take place in their jurdication.
Goans should keep their house safe during SAPTHA at Vasco and during Ganesh Festival.
