Be 'laadli' of MLA, get 1 lakh quickly

GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 20 July 2012 21:34 IST

The government has made signature of MLA mandatory for the Laadli Laxmi scheme, if the bride wants Rs one lakh immediately without any hassles of investigation.

“The form submitted without MLA’s signature is also accepted, but payment will be delayed since it would require proper investigation of the applicant”, said chief minister Manohar Parrikar.

The chief minister was today grilled by the opposition members as only BJP MLAs were given the forms and they were forcing the applicants to fill the party membership.

“What can I do if they are asking for party membership”, asked Parrikar.

Fatorda independent MLA Vijay Sardesai reminded the CM that this is not an Animal Farm where some are more equal than others and all MLAs should get it.

Laadli Laxmi is a scheme for any girl between the age group of 18 to 40, who is getting married. The government gives her Rs one lakh.

St Cruz MLA Babush Monseratte brought it to the notice of the House that the BJP MLAs have started exploiting the scheme to swell its party membership.

Parrikar said the BJP MLAs took all the forms as, being ruling party members, they came to know first about the forms being made available at the Women and Child Development department.

“The next lot would be distributed to the rest of the MLAs”, he assured.

However, he also clarified that taking MLA’s signature is not at all compulsory and the forms would be made available even in the notified banks from August.

His argument is that the MLA is a responsible person in the state and he would sign only after verifying all the facts about the girl getting married.

Replying to Sardesai’s query, Parrikar however said any MLA can sign any form from any constituency and need not be restricted only to his or her constituency.

If there is no signature of the MLA, we are compelled to conduct proper investigation through police and other agencies for the purpose of verification, said the chief minister.

Stating that the process of making payment to the brides would begin from mid-August, he also clarified that the date of legal marriage, and not religious, would be considered for the purpose.

Government has got the details of the families either thru sensor or thru ration card, to make the success of the government scheme and to avoid the middle men the government should deliver the farms at the residents of the families, who are eligible, like it was done to issue the election card. there are lot middlemen they speak in their own tune, you do insurance, enrol for this, then the forms will issued etc., to stop the defame for the government,

The Government should avoid these middlemen's and should be done free of cost or else the government should fix the conditions to follow,

Its very very difficult face these middlemen they may good with government but they can not be soo polite and good with the beneficiary .

It makes no sense to put so much trust and faith in the MLAs.

Do they have machinery at their disposal to authenticate the legitimacy of the application. The Govt. must perform a thorough evaluation and fact verification before doling out the cash.
