Sangma claims support of 28, except 1 Ind

GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 10 July 2012 22:41 IST

P A Sangma, NDA-sponsored candidate for the post of President of India, has claimed support of 28 out of 40 members of Goa Assembly.

“The BJP (21), the MGP (3) and all independents except one (4) has pledged their support to me”, he told the media persons today.

He was in Goa, along with BJP spokesperson Prakash Jawadekar, for the campaign.

“I am moving all over the country also to garner support of those who have still not made up their mind”, said Sangma.

The election however is above party lines due to which, he said, both he as well as UPA-supported candidate Pranab Mukherjee has resigned from their respective parties.

“If Pranab was a failure as the finance minister of the country, how could he be the fit candidate to become the President of India”, asked Jawadekar while speaking to the media.
