Cong wants Mopa only after preparing local manpower

The Congress in Goa expressed reservations over the proposed greenfield airport in the northern part of the state at Mopa, claiming that it would lead to an influx of people from neighbouring states.
Congress Goa spokesman Jitendra Deshprabhu said that the state is not prepared to provide human resources for the new airport project, which is in its final stage of bidding.
There will be an influx of people from outside the state.
There will be at least 7,000 to 8,000 jobs created on the airport and we dont have manpower to cater to the need. Mopa airport won't be fruitful for Goan people, Deshprabhu said.
The former legislator opined that the state government was supposed to create courses in aviation and other services related to the airport through its Industrial Training institutes (ITI) or Polytechnics, but that has not happened.
Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had recently said that the greenfield airport project at North Goa in Mopa village would be tendered by October, this year.
This would be the second airport in Goa, besides the existing Dabolim airport which houses INS Hansa, an Indian Navy facility.
Deshprabhu said that the existing Dabolim airport should be upgraded to a full-fledged airport before commissioning a second airport project.
He said that the Congress government had began the process of upgrading Dabolim airport, but the BJP-led government does not seem to be serious about it.
Interestingly, when he was legislator in the year 2002, Deshprabhu had resorted to an agitation demanding an airport at Mopa.
However, he said, now it was a wrong decision to rush in for the project. Because of my wrong decision, I was defeated by the people, he added.

Mr. Deshprabhu is just waiting for this opportunity to make money with vast properties he owns in Pernem taluka, as the prices of land is sure to go up. In fact he was fighting for the airport at Mopa all this time .If he is objecting to it now , it 's just because he and the Congress Party can't make money with the deals, as they are in the Opposition. Are the grapes sour Mr. Deshprabhu ?
