Govt to fill 1670 pending ST posts

Goa government has put on fast-track the process of filling vacant government posts, reserved for Scheduled Tribes (ST) in various departments.

State Tribal Welfare Minister Ramesh Tawadkar told PTI that there were 1,670 vacancies, which had piled up over the last few years.

"There was a fear that government might de-reserve these vacancies, which would be an injustice to the ST community," he said.

On Tuesday, Tawadkar held meeting with senior bureaucrats asking various government departments to give the details of backlog of the ST vacancies pending with them.

"A deadline of three months has been set. Within that period, all the vacancies should be filled," the minister said.

United Tribal Alliance Association (UTAA), an umbrella organisation of the tribal associations, had demanded immediate filling of these vacant posts, which would solve the grave issue of unemployment.

The erstwhile Digambar Kamat government had initiated a special drive to fill these posts reserved for ST, but could employ only 35 people, Tawadkar added.

The real problem in goan politics is dishonest politicians win elections by promising govt. jobs. This is done by blatant manipulation of Goa Public Service Commission. This has been going on for a long time. if currupt politicians take money for jobs others do it for political considerations. either monetary or political, In both cases these are extraneous considerations. Autonomy of GPSC is compromised a long back. Some public spirited person should file a writ petition in high court and high court should monitor the jobs. This is the best possible solution to this problem. or else we see the kind of blatant chamchagiri which goes on of every CM including the incumbent by those interested in jobs and contracts. If you are giving 10th standard exam and you get the exam paper leaked you are liable to punishment. but if you manipulate GPSC exams you are not only rewarded you get a chance to rule goa and decide fate of others. this should stop somehow.

All Nizgoenkars must object to filling of these posts from tribal people outside the state. These post first of all are lying vacant as there were no suitable tribal people living in Goa to take up these jobs. This is where our constitution fails. Reservation should be given where it is suitable and where it is required. Secondly, why there should be reservation at all in the first place even after more than fifty years of independence. Is reservation democratic in nature. If not, throw it away and give jobs for the most suitable persons . If this is followed there will peace and justice in society.
