Alina is minister; Assembly from 12 July

Alina Saldanha, who replaced her late husband Matanhy in Cortalim constituency, was sworn in as the minister in Manohar Parrikar cabinet.

She would be given portfolios on Monday.

The cabinet post was kept vacant by Parrikar after Matanhy, former tourism minister, suddenly died on 21 March.

Alina was later fielded as Cortalim candidate by the BJP.

She was elected unopposed on 21 May.

Governor Bharat Vir Wanchoo administered her the oath of office and secrecy.

Several ministers and MLAs attended the function held at Durbar hall at Cabo Raj Bhavan.

Meanwhile, the monsoon Assembly session would begin on 12 July, to be concluded on 8 August.
