GCA com. disowns Narvekar, excludes him as President
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 12 May 2012 22:23 IST

Goa Cricket Association president Dayanand Narvekar is in a soup as 11 out of 15 managing committee members have turned against him, ‘excluding’ him to function as the president.
Majority members of the managing committee, headed by vice president Vinod Fadke and secretary Prasad Fatarpekar, have recommended to the general body Narvekar’s expulsion as GCA’s primary member.
In retaliation, Narvekar has replaced the office bearers, appointing his own people on Friday, using his powers as the president.
He also still claims to be the president, stating he was elected directly by the club members and managing committee cannot remove him.
He has now appointed Shrikant Tari as the Secretary and Daya Pagi as the treasurer, while continuing Prakash Fadte and co-opted lady member Kishori Haldankar as the vice presidents.
While Narvekar claims that the managing committee has no authority to take any action since he had changed the office bearers on 11 May, Fadke says the resolution was passed by 10 May, by circulating the paper.
The 11 members have even gone to the extent of changing the locks of GCA front door and other doors while keeping standing instructions not to allow Narvekar to enter the GCA office.
“My mission to displace Narvekar has been completed 95 per cent”, said jubilant Dr Shekhar Salkar, who had carried out single-handed crusade against alleged misdeeds of Narvekar during Congress regime.
Dr Salkar, a strong BJP supporter, said he is also happy that the changeover is taking place in a democratic manner, without appointing administrator.
The resolution, moved under provision of section 6-ii-a of the GCA constitution, has recommended his expulsion for his “persistent activities detrimental to the interest of the Association.”
Sudden change in the mood of the managing committee members took place after the government instituted an inquiry committee to probe into the misappropriation of funds of the GCA.
Narvekar, in response, made a public statement that he had not signed a single check during his tenure as the president and he was not responsible for any such misdeeds.
The ‘disowning’ act of Narvekar reportedly irked the managing committee members, who took a drastic step of disowning their own president.
The GCA is supposed to go for fresh election on 27 May and the process is beginning from 14 May.
Narvekar, in the meanwhile, had convened a meeting on 14 May to decide on the demand of the inquiry committee to hand over GCA documents.
The same meeting may now also decide when to convene a general body meeting to decide on Narvekar’s expulsion.
“Why are they scared of facing election, which directly elects the president”, asked Narvekar.
The managing committee however has preferred to exclude him as the GCA member, pending his expulsion, so that he could cease to function as the GCA president.
Since GCA president is elected directly by the member clubs, the managing committee has sidelined him as the GCA member.
Though Narvekar has replaced the office bearers, Fadke points out that the resolution against Narvekar is not taken by the office bearers but majority members of the managing committee.
“Changing the officer bearers thus does not affect the resolution moved by the managing committee in any manner”, observes Dr Salkar.
The ultimate outcome of the controversy however would be now seen only when the general body meets, who would decide whether Narvekar should remain in the GCA or not.

narvekar is the main mastermind of the acquisition of large traces of land in thivim more that what is required for the cricket stadium which show that he misued his GCA powers to grab ordinary peoples land for fullfilling his own vested interests and not for betterment of goan cricket.
