Chief minister Manohar Parrikar has made it clear that he would not be able to completely satisfy all the stakeholders on the Medium of Instruction issue.
He has assured a via media on the controversial issue in order to satisfy enough all the concerned.
Parrikar thus plans to talk to all the stakeholders before taking any decision, while not compromising with its principles but to avoid any conflict in the society over the issue.
He admits that he has offered a solution, but does not disclose it.
“If there is no agreement on both the sides, then the government will apply its own formula”, he made it clear.
The BJP has always been of the view that primary education should always be in the mother tongue.
Its election manifesto stated on the issue as follows:
“BJP subscribes to universal scientific principle of primary education in the mother tongue. Grant-in-aid accordingly will be released to primary level schools (1st to 4th standard) with medium in regional languages. However, keeping in mind the problems faced by a number of schools due to the faulty and legally inferior policy of the Congress government and sentiments of certain sections of the population, BJP assures an amicable solution to the problem.”
The erstwhile Congress government had a similar problem of satisfying sentiments of ‘certain sections’ of the people, especially the minorities.
The BJP government is also caught up in a similar situation as five of its MLAs belong to the minorities, besides two independent supporters from Navelim and Velim.
Two among these seven members are ministers.
