Laptop to all students from Std V

Chief minister Manohar Parrikar has made every student happy by announcing a notebook or tablet to everyone studying from Std V onwards.

Extending the free laptop scheme of Std XI students, his budget has made a special provision of Rs 95 crore this year, to begin with students of Std V and VI.

By next year, he plans to extend it all students up to Std IX of all the schools, including non-aided and other institutions having Std XI students.

He has also assured to clear the backlog of Std XI students by distributing them laptops by May end.

The fresh batch of students will be provided with laptops before September, he added.

Similarly, Parrikar plans to fully utilise the Goa Broadband project and the state-owned data centre to create e-content for the teachers with the help of experienced and retired teachers, in order to have interactive classrooms – Smart Class.

The other major decisions Parrikar announced in his budget towards education are:

- 100 per cent financial assistance to all the students, whose family income is less than Rs three lakh

- Increase the number of Goa Scholar scheme beneficiaries from 10 to 15

- Impart training in foreign languages

- Open University for Sanskrit

 - Grant of Rs 500 lakhs to the Ayurvedic College to upgrade their research infrastructure and facilities

- Start a centre of National Institute of Design

- Explore all the possibilities to start a Technical University

Its good to hear that we are geting laptops for 12 std but some students are given first and then later. So please education minister provide with this scheme for us.

If our CM keep all the differences away like religion cast and corruption .then I am sure Bjp will come for the next 5 years.goa need a leader like parrikar who will make goa beautiful not just only the north but in south too.all religion will behind him.dont make mistake like time after next election there will be no chance

Is this tied to anything at all --- such as responsible use? Also, why give laptops and not desktops? Laptops are costlier than desktops; besides, maintenance cost is very high. Once the warranty period is over and generally it is one year, for any problems, one has to pay through the nose via only the company that manufactured it. On the other hand, parts of desktops are freely interchangeable. The business model of laptop manufacturers is such that they make a lot of money on parts. Also, using a laptop -- the posture etc --- is not healthy for the back.

God Bless you Manohar baab , you have introduced such a beautiful package for students , they will always remember you for their lifetime.

The effective literacy rate in 2001 was 76 percent which has been improved to 87 percent in 2011 census which includes 92.1 percent males and 81.84 females.

Introduction to such schemes will help GOA to reach 100 % literacy rate.

The man who himself is an IIT Bombay Engineer knows what is the power of education , we need such ministers as an education ministers for our country .
