Raunak Pai wins Swimathon in long & short swim

Raunak Pai executed a stylish double in Swimathon 2012, winning both the 2-km Swimathon and the 250-metre Long Short Swim in the event held at the Grand Hyatt Goa, Bambolim Beach on Sunday morning.
Raunak completed the 2-km distance in 34 minutes 9.48 seconds.
Marc Ribeiro was second and Ms Pratima Shinde third. Raunak, who is 13 years old, was also the youngest competitor in this category and received a special prize from Children’s Rights in Goa (CRG) for this.
In the 1-km Half Swimathon, Xavier D'Souza was first in 18:47:88, while Nihal Chico was second and Taran Mukherjee third.
Suman Patil got the prize for the first girl in this category, while Nehara Pandey (10) was the youngest competitor.
In the 250-metre Long Short Swim, Raunak Pai once more bagged the honours, finishing the distance in 3:25:85, while Nihal Chico was second and Marc Ribeiro third.
Clarissa Desouza was first girl in the category. Nathan Fernandes (7) was the youngest competitor.
The prizes, sponsored by Caculo Mall, Grand Hyatt Goa and CRG, were given away by swimming coaches Thomas Jose and Narasimhalu of the Sports Authority of Goa (SAG), Kenneth Coelho of Grand Hyatt Goa and Dr Nishtha Desai of CRG.
Other main sponsors included the NRB Group, SAG and Wallace Pharmaceuticals. Other sponsors included Kingfisher Water, The Upper House Restaurant, Bombay Bazar, Lester Melo, Property Management Group and HP Syscon.
The Goa Yachting Association (GYA) provided rescue boats, ‘Drishti’ provided trained lifeguards and Jet Skis, and Zarhak Moulders, makers of Shakti water tanks with the Goa Kayaking Club provided kayaks.
Swimathion organisers gave a cheque of Rs10,000 to CRG at the conclusion of the event.

2 km: (1) Raunak Pai, (2) Marc Ribeiro, (3) Pratima Shinde.
1 km: (1) Xavier D'Souza, (2) Nihal Chico, (3) Taran Mukherjee (First girl) Suman Patil.
250 metres: (1) Raunak Pai, (2) Nihal Chico, (3) Marc Ribeiro (First girl) Clarissa Desouza.
