Narvekar & Agnelo under EC scanner
GOANEWS DESK, PANAJI | 11 January 2012 07:06 IST

Aldona MLA of Congress and Goa Cricket Association president Dayanand Narvekar is in trouble for distributing cricket kits to several clubs.
On the other hand, state-owned Goa State Women’s Commission has also been issued a notice for inviting Calangute MLA Agnelo Fernandes as a guest for their function.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has asked Mapusa deputy collector to inquire into an alleged violation of code of conduct by the GCA.
A complaint against the GCA has been filed by Dr Shekhar Salkar, former GCA executive member and Vallabh Kamat Dhakankar.
Joint Chief Electoral Officer, Narayan Navti told the reporters here that the deputy collector had been asked to probe the distribution of kits by GCA to its affiliated clubs in violation of a code of conduct.
Narvekar however was personally not present at the function of distributing the kits to the GCA affiliated clubs from all over Goa.
"If GCA is allowed to do so, there are several other clubs headed by politicians, who will follow the suit," observed Salkar.
According to him, GCA has been used as a front by Narvekar and his Congress party to woo the voters.
In case of the state-owned Women’s Commission, the EC office has sent a notice seeking explaination on why the MLA and an aspirant candidate of the Congress was invited as one of the guests at a state function.

The common man sees only notices being served but no concrete action....Have the Politicians kept sufficient teeth to the Commission, to take some meaningful strict action to serve as deterrent to prevent repeated violation of the code of conduct? And some of those in Power, so arrogantly seen openly violating the code with tall public utterances....
