'Another Planet' wins international short film award

Short Film award winners at 42nd IFFI 2011
'Another Planet', directed by Smita Bhide, was adjudged the best short film in the international competition section by a jury headed by Indian Director Basu Chatterjee, at the 42nd IFFI held in Goa.
A short film by UK-based producer Jamie Nuttgens about child poverty in India today won the coveted Golden Lamp Award in the Short Film Section of International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2011 here.
The 28-minute film is a touching tale about a young girl, nine-year-old Chandi, trapped in a predicament. She turns to black magic to save her dying mother. The Silver Lamp Tree Award was won by 'Crazy Beats Strong Every Time', a story on Nigerian community in the US.
Directed by Moon Molson, the 27-minute long movie is about an African-American boy in his twenties. For the first time in this section, a special jury award for Goan films was constituted. The award was given to 'Anthony Gonsalves The Music Legend,' directed by by Ashok Rane and produced by Shreekant Joshi and Mrinalini Joshi.
The jury for environment films was headed by Sivan, a Kerala-based filmmaker. SFC (Short Film Section) is a concept introduced by Entertainment Society of Goa, the nodal agency hosting IFFI. The section had received 218 entries.
