Parrikar removed, Khot new PAC chairman

The history of Lok Sabha repeated in Goa. Manohar Parrikar, the chairman of Public Accounts Committee, has been replaced.
His BJP colleague Vijay Pai Khot, reportedly on the way to the Congress, has been appointed as the new PAC chairman.
Speaker Pratapsing Rane made the sudden change late evening, after adjourning the two-day Assembly session sine die.
Parrikar, as the PAC chairman, had been a pain in the neck of the ruling Congress, due to his report on illegal mining in Goa.
Rane rejected the plea to table the report yesterday as it was not signed by all the members.
“What I have received is just a draft, not a report”, Rane had said.
In protest, the opposition BJP members yesterday staged a walk out.
The report was signed by only three BJP members.
The majority four members refused to sign it.
It included three Congress members – Victoria Fernandes, Francis Silveira and Agnelo Fernandes as well as Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party member Dipak Dhawalikar.
Parrikar had also mentioned yesterday that his second report would be on Special Economic Zones, hinting Rane’s involvement in it during his tenure as the chief minister.
The SEZs however now have been scrapped.
Reacting to speaker’s order, Parrikar wondered why Rane had to issue the order in such a hurry.
He claimed that Pai Khot would never join the Congress and he is equally an upright MLA.
However, Pai Khot appears to be in a dilemma since his Canacona constituency has been now merged with neighbouring Poinguinim constituency, making it one Assembly segment.
Both these segments are represented by the BJP.
Poinguinim MLA Ramesh Tawadkar, also a tribal leader, has more chances of getting the BJP ticket.
As a result, Pai Khot has to either go in hibernation or try for the Congress ticket to cross swords with his party colleague.
Pai Khot appears to be very close to chief minister Digambar Kamat.

How will the members sign a report which could point towards wrong doings of their party colleagues? The history of JPC and PAC has time and again shown this clearly and as such raised a serious doubt in the minds of the common man whether such Committees could succeed in bring out the wrong doings of those with Political clouts....or those who are ruling and some of whose members and supporters are involved in wrong doings....
Getting elected in the present set up does not give a free hand to loot the public wealth---the concerned could take a note......
