IFFI dates rescheduled, MoU on Mon

The MoU between the Union and the Goa governments for hosting the upcoming edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), would be signed on the coming Monday, a senior official said today.
Chief Secretary S K Srivastava told reporters today that the MoU between Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) and Information and Broadcasting Ministry, would be signed in Delhi on September 26.
The MoU was reportedly delayed as state government wanted to wind up the fest by December 2, as the state hosts feast of St Fransic Xavier, a patron saint of Goa, on December 3. The feast is attended by lakhs of people.
CEO of ESG Manoj Srivastava said that the dates for the festival are maintained like every other year.
"The festival would be held from November 23 to December 2," he said.
Panaji has been hosting the ten-day IFFI since 2004 when it traveled here from Delhi.
Sources stated that Short Film Centre, a concept proposed by ESG, was the bone of contention, which led to the delay in signing the MoU. SFC was a platform for short-film makers to rub shoulders with the international filmmakers.
"Now, it has been decided that SFC would not be a part of the MoU. Goa government can hold it separately," senior state government official said on the condition of anonymity.
The MoU was supposed to be signed on September 9.
