Churchill & Joaquim Alemao
In their usual style of blackmail politics, PWD minister Churchill Alemao and his brother urban development minister Joaquim resigned as the minister as well as from primary membership of Congress.
The reason? Churchill’s daughter Valanka has been disqualified from contesting organizational election, as the Goa Youth Congress president.
Their resignations however have not been accepted so far. Chief minister Digambar Kamat is silent on the development.
Both Alemao brothers however have confirmed submitting resignation letters to the CM.
“The high command has told us to hold on for one day”, adds Churchill.
Goa was witnessing a fierce battle for the post of Youth Congress president.
In a triangular fight, Valanka, Margao councilor and GPYC vice president Pratima Coutinho and North Goa vice president Jitesh Kamat were battling against each other.
Chief minister Digambar Kamat, GPCC president Subhash Shirodkar and Churchill had openly canvassed for Valanka.
As this act of party leaders canvassing for a candidate was in violation of the code of conduct of Youth Congress elections, Kamat had filed a complaint in this regard against Valanka.
Besides Valanka, Kamat was also accordingly served a show cause notice as he had gone public through media on the issue.
Later, zonal returning officer of Indian Youth Congress today morning disqualified Valanka from contesting any election for any post of Youth Congress of NSUI for one year.
This received sharp reaction from her father Churchill and uncle Joaquim, who have now resigned in protest from the cabinet as well as party’s primary membership.
