Judge Anuja gets clean chit from high court

Industrial tribunal judge Anuja Prabhudesai finally got justice. The Bombay high court has dropped all the charges against her, giving her a clean chit.
Judge Prabhudesai was suspended last year in February. Lawyers in the state had publicly protested against the suspension of the most upright judge.
She was then also proved innocent in an inquiry conducted by high court registrar I K Jain.
Accordingly, her suspension was revoked in December last year, almost after ten months.
However, she was once again served a fresh show cause notice in February this year, asking her why she should not be held guilty.
The decision to serve the show cause notice was taken by five-member Special Disciplinary Committee, headed by the chief justice of Bombay high court.
Based on her reply to the chargesheet, she has now been cleared of all the charges against her.
Judge Prabhudesai was served two chargesheets, one in August 2009 and another one in February last year, without any complaint made against her.
The February chargesheet had come along with suspension notice.
The high court in the meanwhile had extended her suspension by six more months while she replied to her chargesheets.
While registrar Jain proved her not guilty, the inquiry report of the first chargesheet was not made known.
However, judge Prabhudesai has now been cleared of all the charges against her.
The lawyers, while protesting, had alleged that the suspension was a ploy to deny her elevation as a high court judge.
Meanwhile, another suspension of judge Desmond D’Costa is still pending before the high court.
D’Costa’s suspension had witnessed state-wide protests by lawyers in Ferburary, even by going to the extent of boycotting the court proceedings.
