Agitation for primary edcuation in mother tongue to continue

Bharati Bhasha Suraksha Manch has decided to continue its agitation till the government makes it a rule to impart education in mother tongue or Indian languages.

They have decided to go ahead with its rally in Panaji on 6 April.

BBSM convenor Shashikala Kakodkar said the announcement by education minister Babush Monseratte in the Assembly to maintain status quo on primary education could be just an eye wash to put off the peoples’ agitation.

“We have no trust in this government. We don’t want ‘in principle’ statements but a proper act in this regard”, she said.

Thinker and writer Adv Uday Bhembre came down heavily on education minister’s statement to first announce the education policy (on 11 April) and then frame rules for medium of instruction in primary schools.

“The government needs to appoint academic authority to decide curriculum and medium of instruction and also appoint advisory council of experts to make the rules. The drop-out minister should not decide it”, he said.

Principal Subhash Velingkar said the act should be such that no minister should dare to change the policy on medium of instruction.

Meanwhile, deputy speaker Mauvin Godinho today rejected a private resolution of medium of instruction in the House, stating that the issue has already been debated enough in the House.

India is country with many languages ,so it is necessary as Indian we to know at list three to four languages if possible. scientific study of Europe say s that about 30% people are unable to learn language other then mother tongue . Now it is high time to form language policy nation wide. i believe as nature language every region must make learning & knowledge of local language compulsory . then the language of mass Hindi & English which is one of the international language,not International language which is misguiding .choice to select medium of instruction must not be given to people,of-course selection of any one language other then mother tongue ,choice may be given to parents . if we don't go by this then ,every one will go by his/her own views & development of child will be static . THIS issue must be looked in scientific angle,not in vote strategy .

Come on Goa! and all the crazy politicians!!! its time to wake up and smell the coffee.... Konkani as a mother tongue should be very encouraged but do not mess with the education system.

Education should be imparted to all children whether primary or secondary ONLY in english because this is the universal language and this is what counts in the end. Look at our children and the way they speak in English and see our ancestors.... how different is their english. Please save our kids future and YES have ONE SUBJECT as Konkani because you have to know your mother tongue and we all should respect it but donot let the education system depend on it. Secondly the EDUCATION SYSTEM in Goa SUCKS BIG TIME. Bring a change now else we are going to be way behind everyone else in INDIA. COME ON GOA

Solve the issue once and for all. Run a parallel education system, one with the vernacular as the medium of instruction and the other with English as the medium. Those who wish to be disempowered in global terms can attend the former and those who wish to be part of the leading edge can join the latter. We live in a democracy and people should be given the right to determine their futures. There will always be a priviledged class in any society and individuals must decide if they want to be part of it or not. Enough said!!

People with vested interests, who messed up everything now want to save face. Try banning the English language from use in administration, the parliament and the assemblies at all-India level or using only Konkani for admistrative purposes all over Goa. If you want to save National Bhasha, make Hindi, a medium of instruction nd regional languages and English compulsory subjects.How about that. By the way ban all unaided English private schools "status quo ante" in the state, retrospective to language policy was enacted and put in place, 20 years ago. How about that?
