Lawyers march to high court to protest Desmond's suspension
The protest against suspension of judge Desmod D’Costa spread all over Goa with lawyers of almost seven courts boycotting the proceedings.
On the other hand, other citizens have also joined the protest. Under the banner of Citizens’ Initiative, a public meeting is organized on Monday, 14 February in Panaji.
Margao lawyers were instant to react yesterday with spontaneous boycott of proceedings in all the courts in Margao. Later, lawyers in Quepem and Vasco courts had also stalled proceedings.
The protest today spread in other parts of Goa, with lawyers boycotting court proceedings in Canacona, Sanguem, Mapusa and Pernem since morning. Later Panaji lawyers also joined the boycott in the evening.
While demanding immediate revocation of judge D’Costa’s suspension, some of these lawyers have also demanded apology to D’Costa if he is innocent.
The agitating lawyers later met Justice S B Deshmukh and registrar I K Jain and handed over a memorandum, demanding immediate revocation of judge D’Costa.
Adv Anacleto Viegas, president of South Goa Lawyers’ Association, told goanews.com that both have assured them to convey the demand to the higher authorities of the Bombay high court.
