Narvekars face 420 for forging birth certificate

Goa Police today filed first information (FIR) report (FIR) against Goa Cricket Association president Dayanand Narvekar and his family for forging birth certificate of his son, Ganeshraj, to allow him play under 15 tournaments.

Narvekar, former state law minister along with his wife, Sushma, son Ganeshraj and Dr Ravindra Chodankar have been named as accused in the FIR lodged by Mapusa police.

The police lodged FIR almost one and half months after former state cricket and GCA’s former executive member Dr Shekhar Salkar filed a formal complaint alleging forgery.

Police have filed case against Narvekar and others under section 420 (cheating), 471 (forgery) and section 120 (criminal conspiracy) of Indian Penal Code (IPC).

As per the complaint, Salkar has said that Ganeshraj after playing two years -- 2005-06 and 2006-07, for south zone under 15 cricket tournament was allowed to play for the third year by changing his name.

The complaint mentions that Ganeshraj’s name was changed to Anish, which is his pet name, a fake birth certificate was attached to get him under 15 category.

“Board of Cricket control of India (BCCI) rules makes it mandatory that no player can play for three times under 15 category as he crosses the age,” Salkar said.

The complainant has also attached birth certificate copies procured under right to information act which shows that Ganeshraj has two birth certificates.

As per GCA record, his birthdate is September 01, 1993 while a certificate procured from a municipality shows that his birthday is February 28, 1993.

The police complaint also states that Ganeshraj has given another birth certificate claiming his birthday as February 28, 1992.

Salkar has claimed act of Narvekar as a cricketing fraud as by allowing his son to play three times, the accused has snatched a chance of another player to play in the squad.

In yet another fraud, Salkar has alleged that while Chodankar nursing home has sworn in affidavit before local panchayat that Ganeshraj was born in their hospital, Narvekar’s wife, Sushma, has sworn in another affidavit stating that he was born at home.

It is not a big issue as compare to the fraud of duplicate tickets of one day cricket match, the whole goa and near by states cricket lovers sufferd on that day.

There must be a lot of irregularities of this kind going around, but not many are interested either out of disinterest or for fear of repercussions. Many years ago in the nascent Congress government in Goa, there was a member, now a senior, getting enmeshed in "marks scandal". This may be how everything works when one is in politics and in power. The power is blinding, until justice system catches up with the perpetrator. I hope similar revelations make themselves seen under the Right to Information Act. Indeed, a powerful tool. No one should be above the LAW.

If this is true- the culprit needs to be punished severely!

But if you see the quality of the politicians today, you will never be surprised to find the politicians never hesitate to commit such crimes! Infact these are very minor crimes for many of them as they are habituated to commit sophisticated heinous crimes! Numerous examples are in the media!

God save this country from such characterless -who grab power and aspire to rule the masses!
