Yash Chopra to open IFFI '10

Veteran filmmaker Yash Chopra will inaugurate the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2010 on November 22 here, a senior official said today.

IFFI director S M Khan told reporters that Chopra will inaugurate the festival along with other film personalities.

He said the opening and closing ceremonies of the film festival will have a group of film stars felicitated for their contribution to Indian cinema.

D P Reddy, Joint secretary (Films) Information and Broadcasting Ministry, was also present for the briefing along with Manoj Srivastava, Chief Executive officer of Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), a co-host for the event.

During the 10-day festival, scheduled from November 23 to December 3, around 70-80 films will be screened in the Cinema of the World Section, he said.

Khan said that a record 450 entries had been received for this section and a final list was chalked out by a preview committee of 20 eminent persons from the industry.

He said 15 films from different countries including three Indian films will be competing for the International Competition section.

Orissa will be focus state for the festival as the eastern state is celebrating 75 years of its cinema. Prominent films and filmmakers from the state will be present during the festival, he said.

IFFI will also have master classes by Boman Irani on acting in Cinema (Comedy in Hindi cinema) on December 1 and Oscar-winner Resul Pookutty on Sound and Technology in Cinema on November 27.

1. While spending money for IFFI, care may be exercised to avoid wasting or misusing the tax payer's money!

2. No Liquor be promoted in any manner as already more than 200 people are reportedly dying at young age due to consumption of liquor in this small State every year and over thousand addicts are being treated in GMC every year!

3. A impartial audit of the expenditure and returns to the State in terms of revenue be carried out to evaluate the necessity of continuing this bash every year!
