BJP fears money power may defeat them in Valpoi

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today said that abundant use of money power by Congress is the only fear they have about losing Valpoi by-poll.
"We did not distribute money. But Congress candidate Vishwajit Rane distributed money to the voters. This is the only fear of ours," BJP Goa Unit General Secretary Govind Parvatkar told PTI.
Valpoi constituency went for by-poll on October 18 in which record 83 per cent voters exercised their right. BJP's Santosh Haldakar is pitted against Congress' Vishwajit Rane in this constituency.
"No one can predict the results because of excessive polling here. We have put in best efforts to get our candidate elected," Parvatkar said.
Rane, on the other hand, rubbished allegations of money power.
"People have voted for the development of the constituency. No one forced them or paid them to come and vote," he said.
The Congress candidate claimed that the voting was entirely in his favour.
The counting for the by-poll will be held on October 21.
The mid-term election was necessitated in this constituency after Rane, an Independent Legislator, resigned from the state Legislative Assembly to join Congress.
